Part 03 - The Great Orme

We'd tentatively planned to drive up the Great Orme during the evening to watch the sun set but with little sign of the cloud dispersing we opted to bring that plan forward to the afternoon of our first full day on holiday. Following the toll road, Marine Drive, around the headland from Llandudno we branched off to climb up to the top.

Roadside Sign

Stopping in a lay-by part way up we saw a sign by the roadside indicating that the headland was being grazed by sheep belonging to Dan.
Grazing

And sure enough, one of Dan's sheep was grazing near the lay-by.
Picnic Area

On the other side of the road was a picnic area.
Headland

Paths led from the picnic area across the headland towards the sea.

Gorse

Gorse provided a splash of colour here and there.
Farm Buildings

In the mid distance were some farm buildings (could that be Dan's abode?) and further away the stanchions of the cable car ride were visible.
St Tudno's Church

From our vantage point at the top of the slope we were overlooking St Tudno's Church and cemetery we had passed on the winding road up from Marine Drive.
Dan's Sheep

And here too as we returned to the lay-by to make our way up to the summit complex were more of Dan's sheep.
Visitor Centre

Parking at the summit we walked through the gate to the Visitor Centre.
Wildflower Garden

On the other side of the gate in a walled enclosure containing a well-signed wildflower garden with some rustic seats and after a brief look around, we made our way the the cafe at the top of the Great Orme for a warming hot chocolate before exploring further.
