Victoria Park in 2024 - Half Term
w/e 07 April 2024
All of this week's
pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300
A month by month look at Ilkeston's
Victoria Park in 2024 - Part 04 April.
Easter was early this year which meant the schools were still
enjoying their half term break when we visited the park at the
beginning of April. That, plus a brief fine spell of weather,
meant that there were a lot more people in the park than last
month and Gavin Darby's "Park Keeper" artwork stood
overlooking a busy play area full of children on the equipment.
|
The bandstand on the other hand was deserted but the vehicle
in the distance indicated council workers were busy maintaining
the park.
|
It was not only Easter that was early this year, the display
of crocuses along Bristol Road was also early. In previous years
they could be seen here in full bloom at the beginning of April
but this year they have all disappeared and only daffodils and
daises remain in flower.
|
The blossom on the trees in the middle of the park though is
looking splendid.
|
Flowers in the carpet bed too are beginning to put on a good
display.
|
So too are those in the central beds and they should improve
more as time progresses.
|
More colour is appearing in the long border too although here,
with the browns, oranges and russets, there's already a autumnal
suggestion even though we're still only in spring.
|
Those council workers mentioned earlier were hard at work mowing
the bowling green in readiness for the start of the summer season.
|
Although the park was still busy with many people enjoying their
surroundings, there were still plant of quiet spots to be found.
|
We usually encounter at least one canine
whilst in the park and back at the play area, this one gave us
an inquisitive glance as we passed whilst waiting for its owner
who was otherwise engaged on the other side of the fence.
