Ilkeston Cam on Holiday

All of this week's pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300
Part 06 - Goodrington
As we continued our evening stroll, the walk took us from Roundham
Head along the promenade towards Goodrington Sands.

For the first couple of hundred yards the promenade is lined
on the left by a straight sea wall whilst the irregular shoreline
on the right is also lined - but there it is with beach huts.
One such hut appeared to be missing as there was a gap in the
line.
|

The gap revealed the strata in the rock face and showed the sediment
laid down millions of years ago.
|

At the end of the straight run, the sea wall loops around the
northern end of Goodrington Sands. Here an alcove in the rock
face contains a couple of benches which are protected from possible
falling debris by a concrete lintel. Having seen the slabs of
rock at Roundham Head earlier, it didn't inspire a great deal
of confidence!
|

There are breaks in the sea wall and steps down to the beach
at various points.
|

The sands at Goodrington are very popular with holidaymakers
but at this time of day they were almost completely deserted.
|

There are also access points from the promenade into Goodrington
Park.
|

About halfway along Goodrington Sands a rocky outcrop splits
the beach in two and marks the dividing line between the north
and south halves of the beach.
|

Also at the halfway point is the Premier Inn and this is as far
as we went before turning into the park.
|

By now the sun was setting below the horizon and looking towards
it put many of the features in the park into silhouette although
the sky made up for the lack of detail on the ground.
|

Our evening stroll ended when we left the park and climbed back
up the hill to our apartment somewhere in this block. We'd packed
a lot into our first full day on holiday - Paignton town and
seafront, Brixham and its harbour and our walk to Roundham Head
and Goodrington Sands. Tomorrow? Tomorrow we're off to the Zoo.
