Wollaton - In 2008
w/e 17 January 2021
All of this week's
pictures were taken with a Kodak DX6490
Current lockdown restrictions that mean we must only
leave home for specific reasons and must stay "local"
when we do go out mean that our regular January trip to Wollaton
Deer Park have had to be put on hold. That doesn't mean however
that we cannot go back in time and view some pictures that haven't
been on the site previously from earlier visits. All of these
below were taken in January 2008.
We've often entered the Park from various different gates but
back in 2008 we drove onto the car park near the Hall and made
our way through the formal gardens near the Orangery.
|
We followed the path at the side of the Orangery - this is the
view looking back to the formal gardens.
|
This led us to the front of the Hall.
|
Walking all the way around the Hall we arrived at the steps up
to the main entrance although this at the rear of the Hall was
originally the Tradesmen's entrance.
|
We entered the Hall and in the Great Hall the centrepiece was
a model of the Hall itself.
|
Making our way around the various rooms we took time to look
out of the windows too, It's not a bad view down to the Lake
is it?
|
One of the rooms we looked in was the Salon where a sign states
that the it "was once the dining parlour, separate from
the turmoil and noise of life in the Great Hall. When Lord Middleton
modernised the interior of the Hall in the early 19th century
it was extended and elegantly furnished as a sitting room. You
see it now as it might have been when Jane Lady Middleton used
it as a room where she could sketch, display her natural history
specimens and entertain her guests."
|
As we left the building and headed back to the car we passed
an old style red telephone kiosk. Don't forge theses pictures
were taken in 2008 so I don't know whether it is still there.
I shall have to check when lockdown is lifted and we can visit
again.
|
As we made our way back to the car we spotted in the adjacent
parkland one of its many residents.
|
And from the car park many more deer could be seen in the distance.
Hopefully we'll be able to return to the Park soon although it's
unlikely this year that our annual winter visit will be in January.
