Ilkeston - All A-Glow
w/e 18 August 2024
All of this week's
pictures were taken with a Nikon D3300.
Following last week's Heritage
and Classic Vehicle Show, some roods in the town centre were
closed for the second Sunday in a row to allow for the staging
of the Glow Music and Art Festival in the Market Place.

Preparations for the event started months ago and even on Sunday
morning work to prepare for the opening of the Festival began
well before the midday opening. Notices had to be erected pointing
to different venues and the programme for the times of the various
acts were posted at various points. around the Market Place.
|

We arrived early too which gave us the opportunity to view some
of the stalls and attractions on the Pimlico car park which was
staging the Art part of the Festival. Tony Hamsom was there giving
demonstrations.

He was also hoping to sell some of his paintings to create some
room in his store which was becoming crowded.
|

Custom Cards was also hoping to do some business with their hand
made greetings cards.
|

Artwork was also available in Temporary Tattoos which could also
be applied to T-shirts but it was all too much already for their
dog who preferred to snooze whilst they set up.
|

Joan Pochin was another local artist with paintings for sale.

Some of Joan's work.
|

Also on the car park were refreshment stalls and a number of
fairground rides which would open later.
|

But back on the Market Place around midday, presenters from Erewash
Sounds made announcements from the main stage in front of the
Town Hall . . . .
|

. . . . and introduced the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Kate
Fennelly who formally opened the Festival.
|

The first act on stage were The Statics to be followed by many
more until the closing of the Festival at 9:00pm. Acoustic sounds
could be heard in The Harrow and King's Head pubs at various
times throughout the day.
|

I wasn't the only one taking photos in the small crowd that had
gathered around the Main Stage and as the afternoon wore on,
I'm sure there were many more turned up - but lunch was calling
so we left the roadies (left) checking the sound levels and balance
of The Statics to make our way home.
