Our accommodation at the rear of the hotel, once again in the Garden Suite, was ideal as a disabled member of our party had almost level access to both the dining room and the car park. From the car park we could overlook this recreational area of the village where, beyond the bowling green, are tennis courts and a cricket pitch. Our first objective though once we had unpacked was to spend an hour relaxing after our journey down on the sea front. |
And after our evening meal, we returned to the harbour on the first of our evening walks. In previous years, the gull population had become a serious problem in Saundersfoot with birds often swooping down to help themselves to anything being consumed by unsuspecting visitors around the harbour. Notices exhorting people not to feed the gulls seem to have had a positive effect as there did not seem to be as many about this year. This young fellow was doing quite nicely eking out a living among the cigarette ends on the seaward side of the harbour wall. I wonder if "No Smoking" signs would have a similar positive result. |
An inviting seat on the harbour wall enabled us to sit and watch the activity on the beach where kites were being flown, children were splashing about at the water's edge and people generally were enjoying themselves in the warm evening sunshine. |
The sea anglers were also out in force. Some made themselves at home on seats using the wall as a backdrop although their position looked a little precarious to me. |
Others were content just to stand on the wall and try their luck from there. |
In the harbour itself, there was the usual complement of small craft gently bobbing on the still waters. |
We'd return to the harbour most days during our stay in Saundersfoot as we had done in previous years and although the scene changes little, there is always something of interest to see - note the Welsh dragon on the flag; always another picture to be captured and this is just one of them. As you can see, we were not the only ones enjoying this Saturday evening around the harbour but as the sun began to set, we made our way back to the hotel and looked forward to the rest of our holiday. |
