Ilkeston Cam On Holiday 2001 - South West Wales - Part 08
Friday - Church, Cheese & Cheerio

All the photos on this page were taken in July 2001

Friday and the final day before our return home. With a long journey ahead of us the following day we did not want to venture too far today so Tenby beckoned again.

We had seen a flower festival advertised earlier in the week so we headed for St Mary's Parish Church to take a look not only at the flowers but also at the interior of the church itself.
Bunches and vases of flowers adorned the church wherever you looked and there were many featured displays too like the one below left which took the sea as its theme and incorporated a fishing net in the design. There were lots of people in the church including several parties of local schoolchildren eager and excited to see their own contributions to the festival. I think there had been a competition and they were eager to see how they had fared.

We enjoyed our look around St Mary's but it was soon time to move on.

And move on we did - just a few miles out of Tenby to St Florence where, after visiting the well known Bramleys Tea Room for morning coffee, we travelled a few hundred yards further up the road to the property pictured right.

This is Ivy Tower Farm where there are meadow walks and a maze on offer for the enjoyment of visitors as well as a licensed coffee shop.
Note - Since our visit in 2001 I believe the property was fire damaged and is no longer a cheese farm so please check beforehand if planning to visit.

The main attraction at Ivy Tower Farm is the opportunity to see cheese being made in the traditional way.

Unlike many cheese processing plants, cheese here at Ivy Tower is made on a relatively small scale and the demonstration and talk that accompanied it were delivered in an amusing and friendly manner.

The gentleman giving the demonstration as well as being a Bill Oddie look-a-like of Goodies fame, was very knowledgeable and paused often to answer questions.

At the end of the talk he pointed out the cheese presses (right) ....

.... and then it was into the shop for an opportunity to taste and purchase the product in any of the many different varieties available.

So, as our holiday drew to a close, it was time to return to our flower bedecked accommodation at the Jalna Hotel in Saundersfoot to pack ready for our return home and bid a fond "Cheerio" to our hosts ..... until next year?
