Ilkeston - Preparations
w/e 15 December 2019
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490
Everyone at this time of year is preparing for Christmas
and that too goes for St Mary's Church.
On the morning of Saturday December 14th a group of volunteers
gathered in the church to decorate it in readiness for Christmas
and in particular for the Christingle service the following day.
A number of trees could be found around the church awaiting the
addition of baubles.
|
Christmas wreaths had already been added to all the pillars.
|
Small trees were added to the window sills Christmas Crackers
and fir cones alongside.
|
The Advent wreath had been in situ since the start of the month
on Advent Sunday and now the pulpit was decorated with poinsettia.
|
Christmas angels were placed on the screen between the chancel
and the nave.
|
Another tree stood near the altar with one of a number of boxes
of baubles nearby awaiting the attention of the volunteers.
|
At the other end of the church work was going on to decorate
the font.
|
Candles, flowers and cones had already been positioned at the
foot of the font but there was still work to be done on the top.
|
Through the door to the Cantelupe Centre foyer led to what had
been a hive of industry a little earlier. The Christmas tree
there had been decorated earlier in the month but on this Saturday
morning there were three trays of candles too.
|
Those candles in fact were the Christingles that volunteers had
been preparing for the following day's service. Whilst these
photos show a "work in progress" by the following day
all was complete and the church looked beautiful.
