Long Eaton - Carnival Parade 2019
w/e 23 June 2019
All of this week's pictures were
taken with a Kodak DX6490
There wasn't going to be a street parade at Ilkeston's
Carnival this year but the whole event was literally washed out
because of the wet weather. Two weeks later however, the sun
shone on Long Eaton and the Carnival took place there, street
parade and all. These pictures all come from close to the end
of the 3.5 mile route.
The Breaston Highlanders led the parade and are seen here on
Derby Road just before the turn into Wilsthorpe Road and back
to West Park.
|
The whole parade paused here for the road back to the park to
be closed to traffic and enabled some running repairs to be carried
out. I think they were just charging the battery on this vintage
car.
|
Repairs to human casualties would be carried out by St John Ambulance
members who patrolled up and down the procession. Drinks on a
warm afternoon seemed to be the main medicine prescribed.
|
It may have been a warm afternoon but the Rotary Club of Church
Wilne were preparing early for Christmas.
|
As well as the large lorries or floats carrying participants
in the parade, there were several other modes of transport and
a variety of vehicles.
|
Many people though walked and were disguised in some imaginative
costumes but I don't envy the three people who donned the Pokemon
suits to waddle round the 3.5 mile route and the other critters
ensconced in various costumes must have been very warm at the
end of the walk.
|
There were three bands in the parade and the second one was the
Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers.
|
Arabesque adopted a Flintstones theme for their float which was
pulling a stone age vehicle whilst a whole host of costumed walkers
appeared and were obviously enjoying themselves.
|
The third band was the Ambassadors Showband from Derby.
|
One of the final floats to pass by was by DJ Hazza, the Children's
Entertainment and Events Specialists but just give these two
youngsters a garland and a whistle and they'll entertain themselves.
It was not just these two either as everyone appeared to be having
a fun day.
