Ilkeston - Carnival People
w/e 13 June 2010
All this week's pictures were taken
with a Kodak DX6490

In previous years I have photographed Ilkeston's Carnival at
various places along the route of the parade and also at its
destination on the Rutland Recreation Ground. I've usually taken
general views of the proceedings and of the floats so this year
I thought I'd concentrate on some of the people taking part in
the event as they congregated on Belfield Street before the parade
started. And what better way to begin than with this bevy of
beauties. From left to right they are Heather on the Co-Op sponsored
Specialist Arts College float, Carnival Queen Courtney and Jessica
who led the Long Eaton Militaires through the town.
|

Many people in the parade were in costume and pretending to be
someone else but the Mayor and Mayoress of Erewash who also took
part were the genuine article.
|

Ilkeston Scouting took their scouting to a new level and adopted
a space theme for their float where British astronauts Vince
and Matt were preparing to don their helmets whilst the already
helmeted Chris was joined by aliens Sharon and Tracey.
|

Representing the Rainbows, Darren, Sarah and Tina came over all
piratical but looked too friendly to be threatening.
|

Cowboy David standing near a contingent of Cub Scouts was thrilled
with his hat and wanted everyone to see it.
|

As people and vehicles passed between us I finally managed to
get a clear shot of the Breaston Highlanders after several attempts
and am grateful for their patience as we waited for a clear view.
|

The 8th Ilkeston Guides looked to the musical "Hairspray"
for their inspiration. Lindsey, Sharon and Claire posed for a
photo whilst Lauren, Georgia, Jase and Sian performed a dance
routine and the least said about Paul and his balloons the better.
|

Although we are many miles from the nearest ocean, the sea cadets
were also in attendance and the indomitable Brendan and Matt
were just two of them joining the parade.
|

Roy and Carol took Dr Who's car for a spin followed by a number
of other classic vehicles to complete the procession.
|

We started this look at some of the people taking part in the
carnival with a bevy of beauties and as we made our way back
to the front of the parade we found that one of them, Heather
on the Specialist Arts College float, had been joined by Jess
(with the tongue), Lucia, Amy and Sue - plus, at the back, a
proud parent!
